Release Date: 08-27-2015Today, the Maine Public Utilities Commission issued a press release to make consumers aware of phone scams that may target their utility service. In the past, scams have primarily involved electric utilities but more recently scammers have posed as local water utilities as well. At times, Emera Maine customers may be targeted with calls from scammers, claiming to be representing the utility. They may even make it appear as if the call is coming from an Emera Maine number. To safeguard yourself against scams, keep the following things in mind if you receive a call that is unexpected or sounds suspicious: Never give out credit card or other payment information over the phone unless you’ve initiated the call. End suspicious calls and contact our Customer Service Center at 207-973-2000 or 1-855-EMERA-11 (1-855-363-7211) to ensure you are speaking with an Emera Maine representative.
