Charitable Giving

Request Support
We want to help!

Emera Maine is focused on building a stronger Maine by working with charities to support the communities we serve. Specifically, Emera Maine supports programs and organizations that engage people around health and wellness, young people, safety, and energy conservation.

If you are seeking a financial contribution, please review the criteria below and complete our online application.
NOTE: ALL charitable requests must be made through the online application; requests received in written form will not be considered. In addition, organizations seeking funding must be an official non-profit organization recognized by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Charitable contributions are paid by company shareholders and are not included in electricity rates.

Where We Give

We believe in contributing where we can truly make a difference — both with our time and our financial resources. We choose causes where we believe our impact will be a source of pride for our employees. And we want our employees to see the difference our contributions are making in the communities in which we live, work and play.

Emera Maine’s Charitable Giving Program focuses on the following areas:

  • Health and wellness events and activities.
  • Youth-focused initiatives.
  • Key business-related initiatives such as safety, energy conservation and heat pump technology.

Organizations seeking funding from Emera Maine should consider whether their submission meets these criteria before submitting a request. Due to limited funding, requests which do not meet the focus areas noted above are unlikely to receive support.

Please note Emera Maine’s Charitable Giving program does not support the following endeavors:

  • Religious activities.
  • Fundraisers or benefits for individuals.
  • School trips, including field trips.
  • Graduation, proms or holiday parties.
  • Funding requests for travel expenses.
  • Debt reduction or operating costs.
  • For-profit organizations.

In addition, Emera Maine does not provide “gifts-in-kind” such as utility poles or service installation, or requests for electricity.

As a general rule, we do not support capital fundraising campaigns, however, occasional exceptions may be made when the project aligns with Emera Maine’s business goals.

Substantial donations ($10,000+) and multi-year commitments (3-5 years) may require a more formal presentation before the committee. Please contact Communications & Marketing for additional information at (207) 973-2644 or email giving@emeramaine.com.

In 2018, the Charitable Giving Committee will convene to review applications on or near the following dates:

  • Tuesday, March 9
  • Tuesday, May 22
  • Thursday, July 12
  • Thursday, November 8

Organizations will be notified of the committee’s decision within 7 to 10 business days.

Additional information regarding Emera Maine’s Charitable Giving program may be obtained by calling (207) 973-2644 or via email at giving@emeramaine.com.
